WCHL Chapelboro is a Chapel Hill-based radio station and news site that has served the Carrboro and Chapel Hill communities for over 60 years. Known as one of Orange County’s go-to sources for local news, Tar Heel talk, and UNC sports coverage, WCHL continues to be a staple of local media. In collaboration with WCHL, 1893 Brand Studio was tasked with expanding their lifestyle content offerings—bringing new, vibrant community features to their digital platform.

The Problem

In 2018, WCHL-Chapelboro identified a gap in the lifestyle content featured on their website. While the site offered strong coverage of news and sports, it lacked consistent features that reflected the culture and everyday lives of Chapel Hill and Carrboro community members.

To address this need, WCHL partnered with 1893 Brand Studio to create a long-term strategy for building out high-quality, engaging lifestyle content.

Our Strategy

To grow WCHL Chapelboro’s Town Square section, 1893 Brand Studio introduced two monthly article series spotlighting local businesses and makers:

  • Flavor of the Month: Highlights local restaurants or food services, especially those new to the area.
  • Made in NC: Features crafters and makers from the greater Chapel Hill region.

Our Storytelling and Campaigns teams work together to conduct interviews, write feature stories, and create social media assets to amplify each story.
