Capitalizing on trends and current events is important to ensure your campaign or project reaches the correct people. The first step is using what you already have in front of you for success!

Here are a few ways to ensure you are up to date with all of the latest trends: 


1. Monitor social media for rising trends.

 

The key to being “on trend” is to be ahead of the game. Trends move and change at a rapid speed and companies need to be equipped to stay culturally accurate, correct, and on schedule with the shift of trending media and industry-specific news. 

 

2. Leverage hashtags. 

 

Trending hashtags on current events, content, or conversations can create more traction for your company and will allow you to reach a much broader audience. Hashtags can enable users to interact with your company by posting on their feeds. Not only are you reaching a broader audience through the use of hashtags, but you are also reaching the audience of your followers when they post with the same tag! 

 

3. Utilize social listening skills. 

 

Conversations in the media surrounding your brand, good or bad, can create an opportunity for real-time engagement. This skill allows your company to be able to track consumer perception through the use of keyword searching, which also allows the opportunity to catch trends early and capitalize on new opportunities as they come your way. 

 

4. Create shareable content. 

 

If your content goes viral you have done it, you’re trending, but how exactly do you accomplish this? Make the content shareable! Not only do you need to make the content shareable, you need to make it something people want to share, which is why it is important to utilize trends.

In a realm that evolves as quickly as the media, it is essential to stay on top of trends and keep track of what consumers care about. Stay ahead of the competition and get down and dirty with what the public wants.
